Pelts-The skin of a animal which is dead,especially with the fur or hair on it.
Wading-To walk through water that is not deep.
Tossing-To throw something.
Ceased-To stop doing something.
Whirring-To make a fairly quiet regular sound.

I think that you should have given examples of the words taken from the chapter as to help us to give ideas on when and how to use these words in future.
